ABOUT NACD PROCUREMENT & FLEET GROUP, INC.

OUR HISTORY

Established in 2005
The North American Caterpillar Dealers Purchasing Group (NACDPG) was established in October 2005.  Les Long from Whayne Cat, with support from Joe Albright from Caterpillar and Tommy Lee from Thompson Cat, endorsed the idea for establishing a purchasing group that could realize benefits by combining efforts for common requirements. Soon after the first NACDPG conference, Caterpillar sponsored a Six Sigma charter that launched the Leveraged Extended Enterprise Purchasing (LEEP) agreements, which was the first joint Caterpillar – Cat® Dealer 6 Sigma project. The Six Sigma project created a means for Dealer Purchasing Managers and Caterpillar Global Purchasing to collaborate and communicate on solutions related to national contracts that benefit both groups.

The Concept
In 2002, the concept of dealers working together to gain leverage in negotiations, in addition to elevating the status of dealer purchasing, was discussed during Caterpillar DBSi teleconferences by the e-Business division of Caterpillar, with participation from Whayne Cat and Thompson Cat. These meetings brought visibility to the need for Dealers to conduct deep dive analysis to better understand and categorize their spend groups.

Fleet Group Formation
Starting in 2009, Caterpillar dissolved their participation in the NACDPG conferences and initiatives due to internal restructuring. Dealers were still included in some LEEP agreements, but the combined focus between Dealers and Caterpillar no longer existed. In 2010, the Dealers created category teams to focus on different areas of spend. Fleet colleagues from different dealerships were coming to the conferences as some dealerships have a connection with the Purchasing Teams. The Fleet participation rose to a level where they have their own agenda, formed their own board and we now have joint conferences.

The Creation of CATDPC, LLC
In 2018, the Dealer CFOs recommended that CATD Loans collaborate with the NACD Procurement Board to form a group procurement organization (GPO). In 2019, CATDPC, LLC. was created. The CATDPC board consists of eight Dealer Procurement Members and the CATD President. The purpose of CATDPC is to create a channel by which Dealers can engage with suppliers with consolidated volume spend, acting as the contracting and management entity for the NACD Procurement & Fleet Group, Inc.

The Creation of NACD Procurement and Fleet Group, Inc.
Over the years the make up of the group has changed and evolved. In 2020, the NACDPG and NACDFG became known as the NACD Procurement and Fleet Group and established a 501(c)(6), collectively known as the NACD Procurement & Fleet Group, Inc. The NACD Procurement & Fleet Group, Inc. holds conferences annually to focus on relevant topics and to further the mission of our trade association. NACD Procurement & Fleet Group, Inc. utilize CATDPC, LLC. as a resource for procurement consulting on projects, for the formation of contractual agreements, and programs that provide Dealer benefits, and to establish a secure SharePoint website to house all documentation.
